The Bay Theatre’s spooky season lingers into November with another Hitchcock masterclass in atmospheric suspense. Hitch’s first American production, a collaboration with famed producer David O. Selznick (Gone With The Wind), tells the tale of a humble professional-traveling-companion who is swept off her feet into a macabre whirlwind romance with a wealthy widower, whose first wife, Rebecca, recently died under mysterious, (suspicious?) circumstances. Their residence, the manor of Manderlay, along with cold and curious receptions by the house staff, make this film a classic of lush Gothic details and razor’s-edge tension.
